Renaming the Institute of Personnel Management (IPM), Sri Lanka as the 'Chartered Institute of Personnel Management, Sri Lanka'
- 'The Institute of Personnel Management, Sri Lanka' was founded in the year 1959, with a view to creating competent professionals in the field of human resources and utilizing same to elevate the productivity of the country to a higher level, recognizing the uniqueness of professions relating to the subject of human resource management. Subsequently, the Institute has been incorporated by the Act, No.24 of 1976.

The Institute of Personnel Management, Sri Lanka which is regarded as the pioneering institute which provides the knowledge and training required for the public and private institutions in regard to human resource management, represents approximately 1,500 full time members who have fulfilled the professional qualifications. A proposal has been made to amend its name to read as the 'Chartered Institute of Personnel Management, Sri Lanka' in order to formalize the function of the institute, to enhance its standardized professionalism, recognition and the reputation. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. W.D.J. Seneviratne, the Minister of Labour, Trade Union Relations and Sabaragamu Development, to amend the Institute of Personnel Management, Sri Lanka Act, No.24 of 1976 making provisions for the purpose, was approved by the Cabinet.
