Improvements to the Grand Oriental Hotel, Colombo through Public-Private Partnership

- It has been planned to develop the Grand Oriental Hotel in Colombo, under the Public-Private Partnership process while protecting its heritage and to transform it into a luxurious hotel brand. The HPL Hotels and Resorts of Singapore has submitted a proposal to conduct a feasibility study in this regard.

As such, the joint proposal made by Hon. Mangala Samaraweera, the Minister of Finance and Mass Media; Hon. Kabir Hashim, the Minister of Public Enterprise Development; and Hon. Malik Samarawickrema, the Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade, to appoint a Project Committee for the evaluation of the said proposal and to pursue action in this regard, subject to the relevant guidelines of the Government, was approved by the Cabinet.
