Renovation of the main building of the Department of National Archives

- A large number of valuable archives which confirm to the uniqueness of Sri Lanka and the Sri Lanka's rules, regulations and legislation since 1885 have been deposited in the Department of National Archives. The main building of this Department which has been constructed with its own architectural design comprises of 07 storeys and it is around 40 years old.

As such, the proposal made by Hon. Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, the Minister of Education, to renovate the main building to create the ideal environment necessary to preserve the invaluable archives deposited in the Department in accordance with the proper standards and to provide the public with a high archival service, was approved by the Cabinet.
