Providing a plot of land for the construction of a Service Centre relating to the Caged Fish Farming Project in the open sea
- The Cabinet has granted approval to implement a project under two stages in farming high demand species such as Modha, Pompanu (Watchchalaya) and Kossa with the use of caged fish farming technology in the open sea on a commercial basis adopting environmental conservation methods and using modern technology. For this purpose, the Cabinet has also granted approval to provide a plot of land in Koddiyar area in the Trincomalee District of the coastal belt belonging to the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, in extent of 150 hectares on lease basis for a 30 year period to the Global Ceylon Sea Food (Private) Limited.

Under the said project, the estimated annual fish production is expected to be at 2,000 MT and a pre-processing service centre is needed to be constructed to provide services relating to activities before presenting fish to the market. As such, the proposal made by Hon. Mahinda Amaraweera, the Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development, to provide a land in extent of 01 acre situated at the Muttur Divisional Secretary's Division on a lease basis, for a period of 30 years to the Global Ceylon Sea Food (Private) Limited, was approved by the Cabinet.
