Implementation of the Ratmalana / Moratuwa Waste Water Disposal Project - Stage 1- Phase II
- The Ratmalana / Moratuwa Waste Water Disposal Project Stage 1- Phase I has been implemented successfully under the financial assistance of the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) during the period from 2008 - 2015. Under Phase II of the project, it is envisaged to construct 7 new pumping stations, a 95 Km long sewege collection network, to improve equipment at the Moratuwa Treatment Plant etc. that will facilitate to provide 11,000 household connections and about 580 commercial and industrial connections to dispose of waste water.

In order to implement Phase II of the project an expenditure of Euro 105.5 million will have to be incurred and out of which the French Development Agency (AFD) has agreed to provide Euro 75 million. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, the Prime Minister in his capacity as the Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs, to enter into a loan agreement with the French Development Agency to obtain the said funds, was approved by the Cabinet.
