Implementation of a Pilot Project for providing an opportunity to the school children to learn and experiment upon Digital Technology

- The Cabinet has granted approval to implement a project for providing basic IoT (Internet of Things) training kits to 100 schools, with a view to providing an opportunity to school children between 11 and 12 years of age to learn and experiment upon the digital technology. Under this project, 100 selected schools will be provided with 20 training kits each, including 04 BBC micro:bit equipment, few sensors, a charger and a Raspberry Pi3 computer.

As such, the proposal made by Hon. Harin Fernando, the Minister of Telecommunication and Digital Infrastructure, to award the contract for providing the essential hardware and training required for the project, to Orel Corporation, as a direct contract, for a sum of Rs.99.21 million, as recommended by the Procurement Committee of the Ministry, was approved by the Cabinet.
