Releasing the lands belonging to the Co-operative Wholesale Establishment (CWE) for the development of the Beira Lake Intervention Area

- The Urban Development Authority (UDA) has prepared an Action Plan to open the Beira Lake Intervention area to the public and under this project, the lands located between the Beira Lake and the D. R. Wijewardane Road are to be utilized for development activities. The lands presently being possessed by the CWE, have been allocated for the Hotels and Tourist Zones, in accordance with the Beira Lake Intervention Development Plan.

Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Patali Champika Ranawaka, the Minister of Megapolis and Western Development, to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, to release the said lands to enable the effective utilization of the same for development activities and to call for proposals to implement the integrated development projects so as to be beneficial to the CWE as well, based on the Government valuation, was approved by the Cabinet.
