Expansion of the Nanotechnology and Science Park
- The Sri Lanka Institute of Nano Technology (SLINTEC) has been commenced, with a view to creating a research based environment in the country in collaboration with the private sector. At present, six private companies are conjoined for the research programmes of the Institute and several other companies have expressed their willingness for such research programmes. It will be possible to make these local products as competitive products in the international market by additional value addition for such local products through these research activities. The service of the Sri Lankans abroad who are experts in Science, Engineering and Technology fields may be re-attracted to the country by providing the appropriate infrastructure facilities and it will pave the way for improving the investments carried out by the global companies in the country.

As such, it has been proposed to further expand the facilities in the Nanotechnology and Science Park situated at Mahenwatta, Pitipana, Homagama and the proposal made by Hon. Susil Premajayantha, the Minister of Science, Technology and Research, to implement its activities expeditiously, was approved by the Cabinet.
