Press briefing of Cabinet Decision taken on 2017-12-19

Resolving the Administrative, Salaries and Professional Issues of the Department of Sri Lanka Railways

- The Cabinet at its meeting held on 2017-12-12 decided to appoint a Ministerial Sub-Committee with the Chairmanship of Hon. (Dr.) Sarath Amunugama, the Minister of Special Assignments and an Officials' Committee to assist the said Committee, to conduct negotiations with the representatives of the trade unions of the Department of Sri Lanka Railways to resolve the administrative, salary and other professional issues presented by them and submit their recommendations expeditiously.

As such, the said Ministerial Sub-Committee has conducted negotiations with the relevant trade unions and it has been recommended that, administrative and salary issues existing in the Department of Sri Lanka Railways should be discussed with all relevant parties to find solutions and that the railway, health and educational services should be re-structured as closed services.

Accordingly, the Cabinet decided to request the Ministerial Sub-Committee to submit their recommendations to the Cabinet in regard to the future measures to be adopted in that connection and also to appoint a Committee to facilitate the said Sub-Committee comprising of Secretaries of another three Ministries, a representative of the Public Service Commission, National Salaries and Cadres Commission and a Personnel Management Specialist of the private sector under the Chairmanship of the Secretary, Ministry of Public Administration and Management.
