Securing a plot of land for the construction of an Accident and Emergency Treatment Unit for the Colombo East Base Hospital

- The functions of the Colombo East Base Hospital situated in Mulleriyawa, has been greatly expanded during the previous years and concurrent to same, it has become essential to upgrade the space facilities of the hospital. Therefore, it is essential to construct an Accident and Emergency Treatment Unit for the hospital and for this purpose, a plot of land adjoining the hospital land with easy access facilities is required.

A plot of land around 01 hectare out of the land belonging to the hospital has been given on a 30 year lease to a private party in 2001, but the said party has failed to fulfill the conditions of the lease. As such, the proposal made by Hon. (Dr.) Rajitha Senaratne, the Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine, to cancel the relevant lease agreement and to release the said land for the construction of an Emergency Treatment Unit for same, was approved by the Cabinet.
