Press briefing of Cabinet Decision taken on 2017-12-19

Enhancing the quality and recognition of the Degree Courses awarded by 'the University of Vocational Technology (UNIVOTEC) and the Ocean University of Sri Lanka'

- The University of Vocational Technology (UNIVOTEC) of Sri Lanka and the Ocean University of Sri Lanka have been established under separate Acts of Parliament, with a view to implementing technical and professional degree courses to provide a better practical knowledge. As such, the joint proposal made by Hon. Mangala Samaraweera, the Minister of Finance and Mass Media, Hon. Lakshman Kiriella, the Minister of Higher Education and Highways and Hon. Chandima Weerakkody, the Minister of Skills Development and Vocational Training, to adopt the same methodology for the institutional review and the subject/programme review applied for by the University Grants Commission in respect of the other State Universities for the said two (02) Universities as well, as appropriate, with the objective of improving the qualitative aspect and recognition of the degree programmes offered by same, was approved by the Cabinet.
