Establishment of the 'Institute of National Security Studies' of Sri Lanka by an Act of Parliament
- Sri Lanka, is strategically positioned geographically, with a risk of its being vulnerable to both traditional and non-traditional security threats. As such, the 'Institute of National Security Studies of Sri Lanka' was established in the year 2016, as a think tank dedicated to work as the central repository of knowledge on national security, for deliberations inclusive of the Government, private sector and the civil society to make enable to discuss and take action on the issues identified pertaining to the national security and stability and the measures that could be adopted in that regard.

Accordingly, the proposal made by H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as the Minister of Defence, to establish the Institute of National Security Studies of Sri Lanka by an Act of Parliament to enable formally to achieve the said objectives and to instruct the Legal Draftsman to draft a Bill providing the necessary provision in that regard, was approved by the Cabinet.
