Press briefing of Cabinet Decision taken on 2017-12-19
Amendment to the Firing Ranges and Military Training Act, No.24 of 1951
- The firing ranges established in the country are presently provided by the Ministry of Defence for training only to the Tri-Forces and the Sri Lanka Police. It has become a timely requirement to utilize these firing ranges for providing the training on firearms and explosives more formally to the persons recruited as security officers to the private security agencies, state banks, public institutions and the semi-government institutions and the sea marshals deployed for the protection of merchant vessels.

Accordingly, the proposal made by H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena in his capacity as the Minister of Defence, to amend the Firing Ranges and Military Training Act, No.24 of 1951, to make enable to utilize the said firing ranges for the purpose intended, was approved by the Cabinet.
