Press briefing of Cabinet Decision taken on 2017-12-12

The strike initiated by several categories of employees of the Department of Sri Lanka Railways

- The Cabinet discussed at length about the difficulties faced by the general public owing to the strike initiated by several categories of employees of the Department of Sri Lanka Railways. Accordingly, with a view to finding a satisfactory solution to meet the demands put forward by the relevant trade unions, the Cabinet decided to appoint the following Ministerial Committee under the Chairmanship of Hon.(Dr.) Sarath Amunugama, the Minister of Special Assignments, to conduct discussions with the representatives of the relevant trade unions and make recommendations without any delay for resolving the salaries and other professional issues of the railway employees and an Officials' Committee comprising of the relevant officers to assist in its deliberations.
