The Report of the Officials’ Committee appointed in terms of the Cabinet decision dated 2017-10-03 on 'Procurement of Vehicles for Government Agencies'

- The Cabinet at its meeting held on 03rd October 2017 decided to appoint an Officials' Committee, under the Chairmanship of the Secretary to the President, to examine the issues that have surfaced in implementing the 'Operational Leasing Method' which is presently being adopted for procuring vehicles for the Government Institutions and submit recommendations. Accordingly, approval of the Cabinet was granted to implement the following recommendations made by the said Committee.

i. Procurement of vehicles required for political authorities such as Ministers, State Ministers and Deputy Ministers through the Direct Purchase method.

ii. Procurement of vehicles required for the Senior Officers of the Government through the Financial leasing method.

iii. Further following the Operational Leasing Method for Double Cabs for heavy usage and high maintenance and vehicles with several passenger seats.

iv. Operating a formal procedure for the productive use of vehicles of the Government Institutions by the Comptroller General of the General Treasury.

v. The Chief Accounting Officer of the relevant Ministry to ensure that an officer is entitled to a single vehicle in terms of a formal approval.

vi. Granting priority to procure vehicles with Hybrid engines and taking action for the disposal of vehicles over 10 years, considering their high maintenance cost.
