Introduction of the Electronic Government Procurement (e-GP) to the Public Procurement System in Sri Lanka

- Considering the benefits to be achieved by the institutions of both public and private sectors, by enhancing the transparency of the Public Procurement System, monitoring and regulating the procurement process, deriving large scale economic benefits through integrated procurement, treating the suppliers equally and by creating a competitive platform for them, the Electronic Procurement System needs to be introduced without delay. The proposal made by Hon. Mangala Samaraweera, the Minister of Finance and Mass Media, to introduce the Electronic Procurement System to the Public Procurement System in Sri Lanka, on the recommendations submitted by the working group appointed for the purpose, was approved by the Cabinet.
