Promoting Ceylon Tea in the People's Republic of China
- Owing to the qualitative aspect of Ceylon Tea, an opportunity has been created to popularize Ceylon Tea within China which inherits a deeply rooted culture for tea. Since the Chinese people shows a trend towards consumption from green tea up to black tea, it has been recognized that the introduction of a formal procedure to popularize black tea of Sri Lanka in the Chinese market is appropriate.

Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Navin Dissanayake, the Minister of Plantation Industries, to prepare a specific procedure for the purpose subsequent to discussions with the relevant institutions in the the People's Republic of China and to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding for conducting tea auctions in China, was approved by the Cabinet.
