Implementation of Joint Ventures centered around Fishery Harbours and Anchorages under the Fishery Harbour Village Programme
- The attention of the Government has been focused to create a new business community, generate new employment opportunities and increase the fishery products export revenue with the use of the facilities found in the Fishery Harbours and obtaining the participation of the people living closer to the Fishery Harbours, by establishing the value added fishery products and services with the corporation of the private sector investors as well.

Accordingly, the approval of the Cabinet has been granted to obtain the assistance of the local and foreign investors for the diversification of the fishery harbour operations under the Fishery Harbour Village Programme. As such, the proposal made by Hon. Mahinda Amaraweera, the Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development, to create service facilities and the improvement of infrastructure facilities associated with all fishery harbours of Dikkowita, Modara, Galle, Cod Bay and Oluvil and facilities pertaining to the repairs of fishery and non-fishery vessels, to support tourism by improving the infrastructure facilities in close proximity to all fishery harbours and anchorages, the construction of solar power and wind power plants inclusive of the implementation of several other projects, was approved by the Cabinet.
