Providing of facilities for the establishment of an Internationally recognized Business School in Sri Lanka
- The Government has recognized the importance of taking modern and sustainable measures to achieve an expeditious economic growth by transforming Sri Lanka into a knowledge based economy. As such, the Cabinet approval has been granted to establish a world recognized engineering school and a business school in Sri Lanka to provide the knowledge and the professional skill necessary to enhance the qualitative aspect of the workforce of the country.

As a result of discussions had with the renowned universities of the world, a proposal has been put forward by the Berkeley Haas Business School in California of the United States of the America to establish a Business School in Sri Lanka on a not-for-profit basis. The University expects to establish the proposed Business School as a regional hub of the Indian Ocean. The educational opportunities will be open to the bright students possessing skills and talents, irrespective of their financial background.

This business school has been planned to be established in the District of Gampaha and the joint proposal made by Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, the Prime Minister in his capacity as the Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs, Hon. Lakshman Kiriella, the Minister of Higher Education and Highways and Hon. Susil Premajayantha, the Minister of Science, Technology and Research, to provide for its initial planning activities, was approved by the Cabinet.
