Upgrading the Printing Press of the Department of Examinations in Sri Lanka with the new technology
- The Department of Examinations in Sri Lanka carries out the printing of the examination papers and documents necessary for conducting of about 270 examinations annually and most of the machines in use for the purpose are older than 30 years. The secrecy of the examinations can be safeguarded optimally by the introduction of the new technological methods and thereby, the confidence of the candidates on the examinations will also rise. The Cabinet has granted approval to improve its system by using the Digital Printing Technology for the Printing Press of the Department of Examinations of Sri Lanka.

As such, the proposal made by Hon. Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, the Minister of Education, to award the contract for upgrading the Printing Press of the Department of Examination of Sri Lanka by introducing the Digital Printing Technology to M/s Metropolitan Office (Pvt.) Limited, for a sum of US$ 2.9 million and Rs.15 million, excluding tax, as recommended by the Standing Cabinet Appointed Procurement Committee (SCAPC), was approved by the Cabinet.
