Reconstruction of the Buddhist Temples affected by adverse weather conditions
- Due to the flood and landslides which occurred in May 2017, damages, which involve the collapse of buildings, roofs, protective walls and walls around Bodhi trees have taken place in several Buddhist temples located in many areas island wide and the cost of the total loss has been reported as Rs 113.87 million by the District Secretaries. As such, the proposal made by Hon. Gamini Jayawickrema Perera, the Minister of Buddhasasana, to renovate the temples spread over in 09 Districts by utilizing the balance provision of Rs 113.87, from the provisions allocated to the Ministry of Buddhasasana for conducting the United Nations Day of Vesak Celebrations, was approved by the Cabinet.
