Obtaining Lands for Aero City Development

- Ekala area, located closer to the Katunayake, Bandaranaike International Airport, provides a major contribution to the productions of the Industrial Sector in Sri Lanka. It has been designed to implement the following sub‑projects under the Aero City Development project which is implemented under the Western Region Megapolis Plan.

* Establishment of a reserved area for Value Added industries;

* Establishment of a reserved area for Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SME);

* Establishment of a reserved area for commercial and recreational activities;

* Media City; and

* Middle class housing and common amenities.

The Aero City project inclusive of the above sub‑projects is due to be implemented under the Private Public Partnership basis. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Patali Champika Ranawaka, the Minister of Megapolis and Western Development, to vest the land in extent of 80 acres belonging to the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation to the Urban Development Authority, was approved by the Cabinet.
