Construction of the Compost Yard under the proposed Consolidated Solid Waste Management Project in the Gampaha District

- The approval of the Cabinet has been granted for the implementation of a Solid Waste Management Project inclusive of the construction of a Hygienic Litter Bin in the Gampaha District where Urban Solid Waste gets collected largely due to the excessive population and the rapid industrialization. It has also been planned to manufacture organic fertilizer, having systematically categorized the solid waste collected by the Local Authorities in the Gampaha District, under this project utilizing the degradable waste.

As such, the proposal made by H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as the Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment, to construct expeditiously, the organic fertilizer manufacturing yard required for the purpose of production, as its initial step, was approved by the Cabinet.
