'Diviyata Udanaya' Programme for Development of Micro and Cottage Industries

- The budget 2017 has proposed to re‑commence the textile and the handloom industry and to upgrade the industrial estates for the development of small and medium scale industry projects. Accordingly, the Cabinet taking note of the proposal made by Hon. Rishad Bathiudeen, the Minister of Industry and Commerce, to implement a programme named 'Diviyata Udanaya', to transform 10,000 household producers engaged in handloom and apparel, food products, woodwork and handicrafts as commercial level entrepreneurs, and to generate 11,000 direct and indirect new employment opportunities by creating 11,000 entrepreneurs through knowledge and skills development programmes, granted approval to implement the said programme in collaboration with similar loan scheme programmes implemented by the Government.
