Implementation of a Special Disaster Management Plan in association with the affected areas of the Uma Oya Multipurpose Development Project
- The need for the proper management of the situation of the area during the forthcoming rainy monsoon has arisen, owing to the water leakage which had occurred during the excavations of the tunnel of the Uma Oya Multipurpose Development Project. It has been proposed to implement a special pre-planned disaster management plan within the period of next three (03) months for the purpose.

Accordingly, the proposal made by H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as the Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment, to implement a Special Disaster Management Plan to identify beforehand, the landslide risks in the Grama Niladhari Divisions in the Divisional Secretariat Divisions of Bandarawela, Ella and Welimada and frequently monitor the said landslide prone places during the forthcoming rainy season to respond expeditiously in case of an emergency disaster situation and establish a Special Disaster Management Operation Centre around the Bandarawela Town to direct the said operations, was approved by the Cabinet.
