Towns East of Polonnaruwa Water Supply Project

- Approval of the Cabinet has been granted to implement a new water supply project so as to cover the towns east of Polonnaruwa which is being developed under the 'Rajarata Navodaya - Let's Awaken Polonnaruwa'. Through this project, it is expected to supply safe drinking water to a population of about 262,481 residing in Welikanda, Dimbulagala, Thamankaduwa, Lankapura, Hingurakkdoda and Elahera Divisional Secretariat Divisions.

Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Rauff Hakeem, the Minister of City Planning and Water Supply, to award the contract for the implementation of the project to M/s China Harbor Engineering Company Ltd. for a sum of US$ 354 million, as recommended by the standing Cabinet Appointed Procurement Committee, was approved by the Cabinet.
