Commemorating the 'National Science Day' and the 'National Science Week' in Sri Lanka

- The 'World Science Day' is celebrated every year on the 10th of November in order to highlight the importance of science for the society and the role of science in peace and development. Attention has been drawn to celebrate the 'National Science Day' and the 'National Science Week' in Sri Lanka as well to coincide with the event.

Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Susil Premajayantha, the Minister of Science, Technology and Research, to declare 10th of November 2017 every year as the 'National Science Day', prioritizing different programmes aimed at promoting science and technology, inclusive of the creation of public awareness and empowerment, on the role of science for a sustainable society in relation to achieving Sustainable Development Goals and to declare the week commencing from that date as the 'National Science Week', was approved by the cabinet.
