Procurement of 100 MW of supplementary power to ensure uninterrupted power supply in the Island

- Due to the decline of anticipated rain during the monsoons of last year and this year, the water level in the reservoirs associated with hydro power stations has gone down. In this context, it has been decided to add 100 MW of supplementary supply of power for the period of next 06 months from October 2017, to the National Grid. The proposal made by Hon. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, the Minister of Power and Renewable Energy, to select a suitable supplier to purchase electricity generators on lease basis, by calling for International competitive bids through a short term purchase agreement, was approved by the Cabinet.
