Kandy Mahaiyawa Urban Housing Project (KMUHP)
- Around 1,220 families reside in the Mahaiyawa settlement, scattered in an area of around 12 acres within the Kandy Municipal Council limits. The 'Kandy Mahaiyawa Urban Housing Project' has been planned to be implemented, with a view to providing housing solutions and enhancing the living standards of those families living amidst social, economic and health issues due to unplanned irregular constructions.

Accordingly, it has been proposed to construct 1,220 condominium apartments as a Joint Project with the Kandy City Development Programme, under two phases. As such, the joint proposal made by Hon. (Dr.) Sarath Amunugama, the Minister of Special Assignments, Hon. Sajith Premadasa, the Minister of Housing and Construction and Hon. Faiszer Musthapha, the Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government, to vest the lands required for the purpose with the Urban Development Authority (UDA) and to provide the title deeds of the housing units to be constructed under this project on gratis basis to the beneficiaries, was approved by the Cabinet.
