Sports Re-engineering Project
- The sports re-engineering project was implemented during the period from 2013 - 2017 with the intention of offering a systematic training for the sportsmen and sportswomen focusing on international competitions and offering scientific training from foreign specialized coaches to the local sports coaches in Sri Lanka. This has immensely helped to enhance the skills of the sportsmen and sportswomen in all the Provinces and the knowledge of the trainers by obtaining the services of foreign coaches.

The Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games are scheduled to be held in the year 2018 and the South Asian Games and the Olympic Games in the year 2020. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Dayasiri Jayasekara, the Minister of Sports, to extend the period of the sports re-engineering project for a further period of 05 years from the year 2018 up to the year 2022 with view to providing the formal training necessary for the junior level sportsmen and women of the country for these competitions, was approved by the Cabinet.
