Amendment to the Fisheries (Regulation of Foreign Fishing Boats) Act, No.59 of 1979

- The Fisheries (Regulation of Foreign Fishing Boats) Act, No.59 of 1979 provides for the regulation, control and management of fishing and related activities by foreign boats in Sri Lankan waters. Taking into consideration the changes that had taken place pertaining to this field internationally and regionally during the past 3 decades, the Cabinet has granted approval to make the necessary amendments to the Act.

As such, the proposal made by Hon. Mahinda Amaraweera, the Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development to publish Fisheries (Regulation of Foreign Fishing Boats) (Amendment) Bill in the Government Gazette prepared accordingly and subsequently, present the same in Parliament, was approved by the Cabinet.
