Streamlining of the disaster relief services and the Build Back Process

- The special attention of the Government has been drawn with regard to prior preparedness and the enhancement of the capability for emergency response in view of the unpredictable whether conditions, continuous natural disasters and the increase in the number of people affected as a result.

For this purpose, it is essential to formulate a disaster relief management procedure with a well coordinated and a collaborative approach, minimizing the existing shortcomings in the present relief management mechanism. As such, Hon. Anura Priyadharshana Yapa, the Minister of Disaster Management, apprised the Cabinet that the task of preparing the guidelines for the purpose with the collaboration of the Food Programme of the United Nations and the Development Programme of the United Nations is being carried out by the Ministry of Disaster Management.
