Rectifying the shortcomings in the Report of the Local Authorities Delimitation Appeals Review Committee

- The Election Commission has pointed out the printing errors in the names and numbers of some Grama Niladhari Divisions, the number of members in the Wards of Local Authorities, issues relative to boundaries, printing and spelling mistakes pertaining certain Local Authorities as shortcomings, in the Gazette Notifications published in accordance with the recommendations of the National Committee on Delimitation.

As such, it is essential to rectify the shortcomings pertaining to boundary issues and publish an amended Gazette Notification in order to hold the Elections of Local Authorities expeditiously. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Faiszer Musthapha, the Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government, to appoint an Officials' Committee in terms of the provisions of the Local Authority Elections Ordinance to examine this matter and submit recommendations within two (02) weeks, was approved by the Cabinet.
