Construction of the Faculty of Nursing

- It has been decided to commence a special Faculty of Nursing to train a greater number of nursing officers and assign them over to the health services as graduates to provide an optimal service by improving the qualitative aspect of the services of the nursing officers of Sri Lanka. The plans necessary for the purpose have been designed with the concurrence of the Ministry of Higher Education and Highways and the University Grants Commission. Accordingly, it has been planned to construct the proposed Faculty of Nursing at the premises of the Sri Jayawardenapura Nursing School and the main student hostal building complex at the premises of the Colombo East Base Hospital situated at Mulleriyawa. As such, the proposal made by Hon. (Dr.) Rajitha Senaratne, the Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine, to award the contracts of the relevant construction to the State Engineering Corporation and the Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau, was approved by the Cabinet.
