Completion of the 2nd Phase of the new building of the National Sports Museum

- Activities pertaining to the establishment of the 'National Sports Museum' is in progress at the Independence Square in Colombo 07 with a view to conserving and exhibiting the sports related information and memorabilia of historic value. This Museum will be provided with the galleries necessary to include the history of National Sports Associations, a data base of sports, records, live size vax statues of elite sportsmen/women who gained success at the international competitions.

This museum is scheduled to be opened in December 2017 and as such, the proposal made by Hon. Dayasiri Jayasekara, the Minister of Sports, to obtain Treasury Allocations for the construction activities pertaining to its 2nd phase, for fixing interior decor and electronic equipment etc. and to obtain the past information related to sports like, films, TV programmes, photographs and documents from the relevant government institutions, to be preserved in the museum, was approved by the Cabinet.
