Establishment of two new National Schools within the Municipal limits of Kurunegala and in the Wariyapola Town

- There are 09 National Sinhala Medium Schools within the Municipal limits of Kurunegala and although 5,228 application had been received in the year 2016 for admission of children to year 01, it is only a number of 1,425 students who could be admitted to them. Similarly, there is only 01 National School in the Wariyapola town and out of the 503 applications received for the year 2016 for admission of children to year 01, only 240 applicants could be provided with the opportunity.

Taking these circumstances into consideration, the proposal made by Hon. Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, the Minister of Education, to establish 02 new National mixed Schools for girls and boys in the Kurunegala and Wariyapola electorates, consisting all facilities was approved by the Cabinet. Further, the Cabinet also decided that a National Policy should be formulated on the establishment of National Schools.
