Increasing of the daily food allowance paid to the student teachers undergoing training at the National Colleges of Education

- There are 19 National Colleges of Education in the country for the purpose of training teachers required for schools and at present there are 12,558 resident student teachers undergoing training. These student teachers during the period of their residential training are paid a monthly allowance of Rs.3,500/- and it would be appropriate to increase the said allowance to meet the present day trends. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, the Minister of Education, to increase the monthly allowance up to Rs.5,000/- and to grant this allowance to the entire training period of 03 years including the internship as well, was approved by the Cabinet.
