Development of identified infrastructure facilities associated with minor irrigation systems

- Considering the magnitude of the drought and the flood situations that occurred recently, it has been found that measures should be taken to minimize impacts of the climate change on the agriculture sector and to adopt to the situation.

Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Duminda Dissanayake, the Minister of Agriculture, to implement a project to develop farm access roads, enabling the use of modern technology on the lands of small farmers in remote areas of the dry zone and to renovate the existing agro wells and encourage farmers towards water conserving farming, as recommended by the Inter Ministerial Committee of Experts, was approved by the Cabinet.
