Establishment of a State of the Art National Science Centre (NSC)
- A science culture for a country is an essential factor to move towards a knowledge based society and economy. Establishment of fully fledged science centres in order to enhance the knowledge an understanding of science, technology and innovations of the general public are measures adopted by many countries around the world.

As such, it has been proposed to establish a National Science Centre with modern facilities in the country with the objective of providing the knowledge of science especially in school children, for paving the way for activities such as conducting experiments etc. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Susil Premajayantha, the Minister of Science, Technology and Research, to construct a National Science Centre in the block of land allocated from the Technocity at Mahenawatta, Pitipana, Homagama, at a cost of Rs.2,550 million and in accordance with the international standards, was approved by the Cabinet.
