Entering into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on co-operation between Sri Lanka and Australia in regard to the prevention of various crimes committed across Borders
- A proposal has been made to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a view to strengthening and for further promotion of the existing co-operation between Sri Lanka and Australia in regard to the prevention of human smuggling and other Transnational Border Crime. Through this, both parties will reap the benefits of preventing human smuggling and movement of illicit goods, Border Management, promotion of regional and multilateral engagement related to Transnational Border Crime and the prevention of such other crimes beyond human smuggling and other Transnational Border Crime by money laundering. Accordingly, the proposal made by H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as the Minister of Defence to sign the proposed MoU between the Ministry of Defence of Sri Lanka and the Department of Immigration and Border Protection of the Government of Australia, was approved by the Cabinet.
