Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) pertaining to the field of migrant labour proposed to be entered into between Sri Lanka and Lebanon
- A considerable number of Sri Lankan migrant labour is employed in Lebanon and in the year 2017 alone, the number of 1,593 persons registered in the Foreign Employment Bureau have left for employment in Lebanon and 79% out of them have taken up household employment. The two countries have come to an Agreement to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding pertaining to the field of migrant labour with the objective of safeguarding the rights and the welfare of the Sri Lankan migrant labour employed in Lebanon.

Through the proposed MoU, positive measures will be taken for the implementation of a safe service environment and a transparent and low cost recruitment procedure for the Sri Lankan migrant labour. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. (Mrs.) Thalatha Atukorala, the Minister of Justice and Foreign Employment, to sign the proposed MoU between the two countries, was approved by the Cabinet.
