Implementation of a project to undertake fish farming in cages
- The Global Ceylon Sea Food (Pvt) Ltd., the joint venture established in collaboration with the Continental Ceylon Sea Food (Pvt) Ltd., of Sri Lanka and the Continental Ceylon Sea Food A.S. Ltd., of Norway has submitted a proposal to undertake commercial scale fish farming such as the Sea Bass, Pompano and Grouper with high market demand by utilizing the technology of fish farming in cages in the open sea. It has been proposed to be implemented in two (02) phases, adopting the best environmental conservation practices and modern technology.

The proposal made by Hon. Mahinda Amaraweera, the Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development, to grant a 30 year lease to the Global Ceylon Sea Foods (Pvt.) Ltd. of the sea bed in extent of 150 hectares of the local coastal area in the Koddiyar Bay in the District of Trincomalee belonging to the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, for the implementation of this project identified as a project of high feasibility, was approved by the Cabinet.
