Construction of a building complex for the Stroke Unit at the District General Hospital, Polonnaruwa
- Stroke is a leading cause for adult disability and it is the forth major cause of deaths in the hospital system. Although stroke can be cured with proper treatment and rehabilitation facilities, apart from the Rehabilitation Hospital at Ragama, no other hospital in the Island is equipped with an advanced Stroke Unit with proper facilities.

As such, the government is in the process of constructing a building complex for the development of the stroke unit of the District General Hospital, Polonnaruwa also inclusive of the Neurology, Rheumatology, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Units with the objective of improving the treatment facilities necessary for the stroke patients. Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. (Dr.) Rajitha Senaratne, the Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine, to award the contract for the construction of the said building complex to M/s. Link Engineering (Pvt) Ltd. for a sum of Rs.348 million, as recommended by the Standing Cabinet Appointed Procurement Committee (SCAPC), was approved by the Cabinet.
