Development of Infrastructure Facilities in Sports
- The objective of the government is to improve the sports skills of the youth and take them to international level, by paving the way for sports to the village. The government is pursuing action to construct 'Provincial Sports Complexes' to cover all provinces in the country and to construct 'District Sports Complexes' covering the rest of the 16 districts except in the districts where the Provincial Sports Complexes will be established and most of its construction work has already been completed. Moreover, these Provincial Sports Complexes should consist of hostel facilities and the sports men and women residing in the areas away from those Provincial and District Sports Complexes, should be provided with sports infrastructure facilities.

Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Dayasiri Jayasekara, the Minister of Sports, to construct 08 hostels with accommodation for 100 sports men and women at a time, close to the 08 Provincial Sports Complexes located in Polonnaruwa, Kilinochchi, Kurunegala, Badulla, Digana, Ratnapura, Matara and Trincomalee at the estimated cost of Rs.1,087 million and to construct fully fledged 06 indoor stadiums in the 06 identified areas located away from the Provincial and District Sports Complexes at the estimated cost of Rs.1,050 million, was approved by the Cabinet.
