Filling of the Teacher vacancies in schools in the Northern Province

- As a result of the conflicts that prevailed over 30 years, a severe shortage of teachers exists in the Northern Province and the dearth of teachers of Sinhala medium has become a major issue. As a remedial measure, the proposal made by Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, the Prime Minister in his capacity as the Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs, to absorb the teachers who have fulfilled the basic qualifications in terms of the Teachers' Service Minute, from among the teachers recruited on contract basis and serving in the Sinhala medium schools in the Northern Province during the difficult time of conflict, to the permanent Teachers' Service, was approved by the Cabinet.
