Commemoration of the 70th Anniversary of the Parliament of Sri Lanka

- The Parliamentary system which has commenced on 14th October 1947 in this country, completes 70 years and as such arrangements have been made to conduct a Summit of Speakers of Parliament of all the countries of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) and to ceremonially open the new session of Parliament of Sri Lanka to commemorate “70 years of Parliamentary Democracy of Sri Lanka”.

Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Gayantha Karunathilaka, the Minister of Lands and Parliamentary Reforms, to secure a sum of Rs.03 million required for the compilation of a trilingual souvenir in Sinhala, Tamil and English with historical information, data and photographs related to the Parliament from 1947 up to the present day to coincide with the commemoration, was approved by the Cabinet.
