Construction of houses for 600 families below the poverty line under the financial aid of the Government of India
- The survey carried out on housing requirements in the year 2016 has revealed that 216,197 families do not have either a house or a land to build a house of their own. A programme for providing housing facilities for these families are now being successfully implemented by the Government. Under this programme, the Government of India has agreed to grant financial aid for the construction of houses for 600 families below the poverty line.

Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Sajith Premadasa, the Minister of Housing and Construction, to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to obtain a sum of Rs 300 million granted by the Government of India and to implement a project for the construction of 600 houses targeting the families below the poverty line covering the 25 Districts of Sri Lanka under the 'Semata Sevana Grama Shakthi Model Village Project', was approved by the Cabinet.
