Relocation of the Buildings situated insecurely in the Wellawatta Canal Reservation

- During the field inspection carried out in the area, after the collapse of an unauthorized building constructed within the Wellawatta Canal Reservation, it was observed that the Sri Sugatha Viharaya as well as a Children's Orphanage attached thereto has been constructed insecurely in close proximity to the canal reservation. As such, the proposal made by Hon. Patali Champika Ranawaka, the Minister of Megapolis and Western Development, to vest a portion of land belonging to the Sri Lanka Land Reclamation & Development Corporation (SLLR&DC) situated in the Attidiya area in Dehiwala, with the Viharaya, to re‑construct the Sri Sugatha Viharaya and the Children's Orphanage, was approved by the Cabinet.
