Accelerated Programme for the development of Middle Income Housing and Infrastructure

•- The Accelerated Programme for the Development of Middle Income Housing and Infrastructure, centered around Expressways, Highways and Railway lines in Urban and Semi-Urban areas has been launched by the Government with the participation of the private sector with the objective of providing housing for 'Middle Income Wage Earners'. Four projects of this type have already been commenced close to the towns of Wadduwa, Homagama, Jalthara and Ragama and several more projects as well are due to be implemented in the future.

Accordingly, the proposal made by Hon. Sajith Premadasa, the Minister of Housing and Construction, to vest several state owned plots of lands situated in the districts of Gampaha, Kalutara, Kurunegala, Puttalam, Matale, Badulla and Matara with the National Housing Authority for the proposed housing development projects to be implemented in the future, was approved by the Cabinet.
