Providing relief to tea smallholders affected by floods and landslides

•- Due to the floods and landslides that occurred in May 2017 in the districts of Galle, Ratnapura, Matara, Hambantota, Kalutara, Colombo and Kegalle, the cultivated lands of small tea holders in extent of 457.37 hectares have been fully damaged and 1,823.10 hectares have been partially damaged. As such, the proposal made by Hon. Navin Dissanayake, the Minister of Plantation Industries, for the implementation of a programme to provide plants and fertilizer required to re-cultivate the damaged tea small holdings and to provide financial assistance to uplift the living standards of the affected tea small holders, was approved by the Cabinet.
